Terms and Conditions

1.  General Policies

Barkside reserves the right to refuse admission or remove any dog whose behavior, health, or needs present a safety concern that cannot be reasonably managed within our facility or services.

Barkside works with dogs of varying temperaments, including those with behavioral challenges. Participation decisions are made at Barkside’s discretion based on the safety and well-being of all dogs and staff.

All prices are subject to change at any time and do not include GST unless otherwise stated.

Payment must be settled in full prior to the release of any dog. Barkside reserves the right to refuse future services until outstanding balances are paid.

2.  Vaccination & Health Requirements

To maintain a safe and healthy environment, all dogs participating in Barkside services must be current on required vaccinations.

At minimum, dogs must be up to date on:

  • Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
  • Core Vaccines (as recommended by veterinary standards)

Barkside may request veterinary documentation at any time and reserves the right to refuse admission if vaccination records are incomplete or expired.

Dogs must also be free from contagious illness and parasites.

Sick Dog Policy

Dogs showing signs of illness may not be admitted. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • persistent coughing or sneezing
  • lethargy
  • fever
  • contagious skin conditions

If a dog becomes ill while in Barkside’s care, the Client or emergency contact may be required to arrange immediate pickup. Isolation or individualized care fees may apply.

3.  Client Disclosure & Accuracy of Information

The Client confirms that all information provided to Barkside is accurate and complete, including but not limited to:

  • medical conditions
  • allergies
  • behavioral history
  • bite history
  • medication needs
  • reproductive status

Failure to disclose relevant information may result in refusal of service, removal from care, and additional costs associated with safely managing the dog.

4.  Illness, Injury & Veterinary Care

Barkside will make reasonable efforts to contact the Client in the event of illness or injury. If the Client cannot be reached, Barkside is authorized to seek veterinary care deemed necessary.

The Client agrees to be financially responsible for veterinary costs resulting from:

  • illness or age-related conditions
  • pre-existing conditions
  • accidental injuries
  • slips, falls, collisions, or injuries sustained during normal play or activity

In the event of a confirmed dog-to-dog altercation, Barkside will review the circumstances of the incident. Responsibility for veterinary expenses will be determined based on the findings of that review.

Barkside does not guarantee an injury-free environment, as participation in dog services involves inherent risks.

Communicable Disease Disclaimer

While Barkside takes reasonable precautions, the Client acknowledges that participation in group care or outdoor environments involves inherent risk of exposure to contagious illness or parasites.

Barkside does not guarantee a disease-free environment.

5.  Photo & Video Consent

Unless otherwise stated in writing, the Client grants Barkside permission to photograph or record their dog during services. These images or videos may be used for documentation, training, marketing, and social media purposes.

6.  Failure to Retrieve / Abandonment

If a dog is not picked up on the scheduled date and Barkside cannot contact the Client or emergency contacts, the dog will continue to receive care at the standard boarding rate plus applicable fees.

If the dog remains unclaimed for seventy-two (72) hours, the dog may be deemed abandoned under applicable Alberta laws. Barkside may transfer custody to a licensed rescue, humane society, veterinary clinic, or municipal authority.

The Client remains fully responsible for all charges incurred up to the time of transfer and waives any further claim once lawful transfer occurs.

7.  Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Barkside’s liability for any claim arising from participation in services shall be limited to the amount paid by the Client for the service giving rise to the claim.

Nothing limits liability for gross negligence or willful misconduct where prohibited by law.
